Automations, as the name suggests, automate tasks for you. You can send notifications, assign data to organizations, delete stale OC Collectors, assign licensing programs, etc., all automated. Create it once, and automation does the rest.
One of the automations is to assign organizations to data, such as the collected devices and users.
Execute the following steps to create your first automation:
- Click on 'Automations' in the main menu bar on the left and then on the item 'Assign organizations'.
- On the automation page, click on the 'Add' button. A new window will open to create an automation.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Field 'Name': Enter a descriptive name for this automation so that you can easily distinguish it from others.
- Field 'Organization': Select the organization, which should be assigned to data from the list.
- Field 'Data': Select 'Data source' from the list. You can also select another option, such as 'Devices', if you want to add further conditions after saving the automation.
- Field 'Data source': Select the data source from the list. All data collected from the selected data source will be assigned to the organization.
- Field 'Targets': Within the selected data source, select the target to which the organization should be assigned. You can also select 'All' if you want to assign all targets data to the organization.
- Field 'Assign to devices': Set it to 'ON'. This specifies that the organization is assigned to devices collected from the data source targets.
- Field 'Assign to users': Set it to 'ON'. This specifies that the organization is assigned to users collected from the data source targets.
- Click on the 'Save' button.
Once the automation has been successfully saved, it will be triggered each time data is imported into OC View. If you want to trigger the automation manually, close the automation window by clicking the 'Close' button at the bottom of the window or the 'x' at the top of the window. Once you are back in the automation overview, click the three dots next to the 'Add' button and select the 'Execute all' option to trigger the automations.
Congratulations, your first automation is set up!
Try out the other automations as well. The 'Send notifications' automation is particularly useful if, for example, you want to receive alerts via specific channels (e.g. e-mail).
Once you are ready to continue, we can start creating your first widget!
