Widgets are an essential and central feature in OC View, allowing you to fully control the different perspectives on data within OC View. Widgets are located in Views, and you can create as many Views as you like, with as many Widgets as you like in each view. You can grant restricted access to Views to specific members or member groups. For example, you could create a View for a specific customer containing only their specific data and grant that customer access to it, or you could create different Views for different internal departments within your organization and create different Widgets with different perspectives on the same data.
Execute the following steps to create your first view:
- Move with your mouse on 'Views' in the main menu bar on the left. The icon '+' should appear. Click on the '+' icon.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Field 'Name': Enter a descriptive name for this view so that you can easily distinguish it from others.
- Field 'Specify organizations': Select 'All organizations' from the list. Based on the selected organizations, the data in the widgets takes into account only the data of the selected organizations.
- Field 'With sub-views': Keep it 'OFF'. You can create sub-views if you want a structure for your widgets that is one level deeper.
- Click on the 'Save and close' button.
Once the view has been successfully saved and the window closed, the newly created view will be displayed.
Execute the following steps to create your first widget:
- Click on the link 'Add your first widget' in the main content section.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Field 'Type': Select 'Licensing' from the list.
- Field 'Name': Enter a descriptive name for this widget so that you can easily distinguish it from others. Example: 'Monthly SPLA report', 'Comparison of software licenses', etc.
- Click on the 'Save' button.
Once the widget has been successfully saved, the 'Configuration' item will be activated in the same window and you will be automatically redirected to that section. If this is not the case, click on the ‘Configuration’ menu item on the left. In this section, you can further configure your licensing widget.
Execute the following steps to configure your first widget:
- Fill in the required fields:
- Field 'Agreement': Select your created agreement from the list. When creating the agreement, we linked it to a licensing program. The software licenses are calculated on the basis of the licensing program underlying the agreement.
- Field 'Organization': Select 'Inherit organizations from view' from the list. The widget calculates the software licenses for all organizations that we have already selected at the view level. If you wish, you can limit the scope of the calculation to specific organizations.
- Field 'Specify observation period': Set it to 'ON'. If the field remains set to 'OFF', only the current actual status of the data in OC View is taken into account for calculating the software licenses. Devices, users and software that have been deleted during the month are not included in the calculation. This makes sense if you want to calculate the current actual status.
- Field 'Time unit': Select 'Monthly' from the list.
- Field 'Time period': Select 'Current month' from the list.
- Field 'Include itemized data': Set it to 'ON'. This allows us to view the itemized data behind the calculated software license quantities.
- Click on the 'Save and close' button.
